We Are FAMILY

The United States of America is a diverse family. Anyone living here is a family member. You don't get to choose your family - it is given.

Family members help each other when times are hard, it is what most Americans do.

Well-to-do families help the poor and marginalized families.

But, we can choose to stop helping each other.

If many of us choose to stop helping, then our family will fail.

I invite any American resident who does not want to help our family to leave. I am sure you will be welcome in the Russian army and other places.

Here's what our family looks like:

Percent of 2021 total population of   331,893,745 [US Census}

Self-identified race, ethnicity Percent of population

Non-Hispanic White                57.8%

Hispanic and Latino (of any race) 18.7%

Black or African American        12.1%

Asian                                         5.9%

Two or more races                        4.1%

Native Americans and Alaska Natives 0.7%

Some other race                         0.5%

Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders 0.2%

     Sexual orientation:

4.1% of Americans aged 18–45 identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual [UCLA]; extrapolating to total population gives 13 million LGBTQ

     Numbers of Foreign born residents:

Americas                   23,241,959

Europe                    4,818,662

Oceania                    263,965

It is likely that recent immigrants value our family more than some born into it.

       Health -

       Mental Illness: 20%, 66 million

Mental health challenges exist frequently throughout the United States. About one in five (20%) adults suffer from a diagnosable mental illness in a given year.  Every day, approximately 123 Americans die by suicide and there is one death by suicide in the US every 12 minutes. We are in the middle of an epidemic and you can help. [https://www.defeatsuicide.com/the-epidemic]

      Disabled: 19%, 61 million

61 million adults in the United States live with a disability. 26 percent (one in 4) of adults in the United States have some type of disability.
