Seems the Billionaire rich boys want to replace educated working folks with a computer program. After all, the program does work for pennies, and those workers are really expensive. So, they'll lay off all of the pricey workers and make a lot more profits. It's the American way - lower labour costs and pocket the savings.
As to what happens to the laid off workers, well, they'll just have to find their own way. It's a free market after all; they have lots of choices. It's not our problem.
BUT: That is NOT the American way.
We can do better, for the workers and for everybody. We all hurt when any large group hurts.
Let’s do this to balance the scale:
Congress passes a law which requires that every employee who is laid off and replaced by AI will receive 100% of his or her salary and benefits for a time equal to their time on the job up to a maximum of two years. During that time, they will be free to make any other plans they can. Any non-compete agreement is nullified. They are not required to come to the workplace for more than one day per week, and then, only if they agree to a request.
