Occasionally a friend or a student will ask me to explain a trump economic policy. They ask since I have read a bit about economic theory and practiced some economics in business situations; and, I have read a bit of post World War II Russian and European history.
When asked to comment on his policies I imagine the scenario below and then cannot respond. He is not a rational actor. He is an assigned torturer tasked with destroying the United States while simultaneously causing as much pain and suffering as he can.
You will not want to read the following mental image if you are the least bit squeamish.
'I am locked into a chair with shackles on my ankles and wrists while watching him torture my young cousin. He wonders aloud whether he should cut off her breast with a rusty hacksaw before or after he takes out her left eye with a dirty spoon. I want to scream even though I risk being whipped across my face with a bull whip for the temerity of objecting. I am not alone since there are hundreds of people shackled in chairs in the auditorium as I am. But, it does not end.'
